Two MCPS Student-Athletes win ‘Minds in Motion’ Athletic Scholarships

The Maryland Public Schools Sports Athletic Association (MPSSAA) conducts an annual Minds In Motion Scholar-Athlete Scholarship program that recognizes those who have excelled on the playing field and in the classroom. Two MCPS, Zam Nwosu of Clarksburg High School and Leo Kugel of Einstein High School, were selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship and were awarded inside the Baltimore Ravens locker room. Zam Nwosu– Clarksburg High School

Miss Nwosu is an AP scholar, a member of the Deans’ List at Montgomery College, and was named a Top 25 Student at Clarksburg High School. Zam is also a member of the National Honor Society, National Math Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, and the Co-President of the National English Honor Society. She is one of two Clarksburg High School representatives to the countywide Student-Athlete Leadership Council (SALC), an active participant in the Montgomery County Green New Deal, Clarksburg High School Leaders of the Pack, and a youth member of the non-profit cultural organization NNAUSA.
Athletics: Miss Chinazam Nwosu is a four-year member of the Coyotes softball program and a three-year member of the field hockey and girls’ basketball programs. She was named her school’s 2021 Field Hockey MVP and named both All-Division First Team and All-County First Team for field hockey. She was a member of the this years 4A state finalist Clarksburg girl’s varsity basketball team.
Zam has received 10 minds in motion awards and varsity letters from all three of her sports. She will major in Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. Among other scholarships, she has received an A. James Clark Legacy Scholarship from UMD
Leo Kugel- Einstein High School
Mr. Kugel was a captain of Einstein’s soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams; all state and all-met in soccer; editor in chief of the school newspaper, and volunteer tutor at his church.
