Detectives Investigate Carjacking on Bel Pre Road; Surveillance Footage of Suspects Released

At approximately 10:35 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the location for the report of a carjacking that just occurred.

The investigation by detectives has determined that an adult male victim was walking to his 2019 dark blue/gray Toyota Corolla when he was approached by five suspects. The suspects surrounded the victim and demanded the key to his Toyota. When the victim refused to comply with their demands, the suspects assaulted him, took away the key to his Toyota and ran away. The victim followed the suspects in an effort to retrieve the key to his Toyota. The suspects returned to the scene, and one of them left the scene in the victim’s vehicle.

Several hours later, officers located the Toyota abandoned with damage at the intersection of New Hampshire Ave. and Heartsfields Rd. Officers determined that the Toyota had been involved in a traffic collision.

One of the suspects is described as a Black male, approximately 16 years old, 130 lbs and approximately 5-feet, 4-inches tall.   Another suspect is described as an unknown race male, wearing a red jacket, 170 lbs, and 5-feet, 7-inches tall.

Anyone with information regarding these suspects or this crime is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070 or 240-773-TIPS, or contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspects. Callers can remain anonymous.
