Montgomery Parks Virtual Speaker Series Spotlights Miami’s The Underline

 Montgomery Parks invites the public to the November 2022 session of its Parks Speaker Series on the topic of The Underline. The free session will take place online on November 9, 2022, from 3 – 4 p.m.

The Underline will be a ten-mile, 120-acre linear park, urban trail and public art destination in Miami-Dade County, Florida, that runs underneath the county’s elevated Metrorail system. This public-private partnership is being built in three phases and the first phase opened in 2021. The project is expected to be completed by 2025. In this session, Friends of the Underline’s founder and president, Meg Daly, will discuss the journey of creating a linear park, from idea to completion.

About the Speakers
Meg Daly: Meg Daly is a full-time volunteer founder and president of Friends of The Underline, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization leading the initiative to transform the underutilized land below Miami’s Metrorail.

A 30-year sales and marketing veteran, Meg owned First Media Direct, a target marketing company serving the broadcast television industry. She held executive marketing and management positions in the public relations, advertising, technology, and real estate industries. Meg has a BA in English from Vanderbilt University and has served on numerous philanthropic boards.

Meg also serves as chair of The Underline Conservancy also a 501(c)3 non-profit organization responsible for the maintenance, management and programming of The Underline as a world-class trail and park facility. She is a member of the Citizen’s Independent Transportation Trust (CITT), Orange Bowl Committee, International Women’s Forum, MRED+U ((Master of Real Estate Development + Urbanism) Advisory Board and HEAT.HELP.CURE Advisory Council.

Isabel Castilla: Isabel is a principal at James Corner Field Operations where she has been practicing landscape architecture for over 15 years. Educated in both architecture and landscape architecture, Isabel brings exceptional attention to design creativity, detailing, and construction implementation. Her work concentrates on large-scale, transformative public realm projects. She is passionate about the design of public spaces and their impact on local communities and cities at large.

She is currently the Principal-in-Charge for the High Line x Moynihan Connector– A walkway that will connect the High Line at 30th Street to Moynihan Train Hall through the new Manhattan West public plaza; the High Line’s 18th Street Plaza and the High Line’s Western Railyards renovation. Isabel was previously responsiblie for phases 1 and 2 of New York’s High Line Section 3; Dallas’ A+Award-winning West End Square, a neighborhood park at the center of the West End Historic District; the Master Plan and renovation of the historic Lincoln Road District in Miami Beach; and the Master Plan and Phase 1 implementation of The Underline in Miami, a 10-mile long corridor of parkland, trails, and neighborhood connections.
