Nature- Meadowside Nature Center features its Women’s Fire Making Class(opens in a new tab) on Friday, November 4, at 9 am. Learn to identify fire materials, collect them, then practice with a bow drill and flint and knap to create sparks so you have a roaring fire. Please register.

Help Locust Grove Nature Center staff identify birds at its birdfeeder for the national citizen science Project FeederWatch(opens in a new tab). The program is every Thursday and Friday in November at 11 am. Free but sign up.

Discover all about chipmunks that make Wheaton Regional Park their home during Wild Neighbors Campfire(opens in a new tab) at Brookside Nature Center on Saturday, November 5, at 10:30 am. Then, we will toast marshmallows and make s’mores! Register, please.

Celebration- Montgomery Parks celebrates Maryland’s Emancipation Day (opens in a new tab)with special events at its historic sites. On Saturday, November 5, visit Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park for free storytelling, quilt making, archaeology activities, hearth cooking demonstrations, and guided tours from 12 pm to 4 pm. Stop by Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park also Saturday, November 5, for free admission at the Woodlawn Museum from 10 am to 4 pm. And, take the guided tour at 10 am and 1 pm on the Underground Railroad Experience Trail. Register online or onsite for this program. Finally, on Sunday, November 6, 1 pm to 4 pm, Harper Cabin at Brookside Nature Center will have free storytelling, reenactors, and musical performances.

Maydale Nature Classroom invites everyone to its Community Celebration(opens in a new tab) on Saturday, November 5, 1 pm to 4 pm, with free live music, fall crafts, apple cidermaking, campfire, s’mores, and more!

Beer and Coffee- Meet up with friends and neighbors for beverages and fun this weekend! Acoustics and Ales(opens in a new tab) is at Elm Street Urban Park in Bethesda on Saturday, November 5, 11 am to 2 pm, with music, food, and local brews. And, live jazz comes to Cabin John Regional Park Amphitheater during Sunday Serenade(opens in a new tab) on Sunday, November 6, 10 am to 11:30 am. All free!

Volunteer- Learn to identify invasive and nonnative plants and ways to remove them in the parks during our Weed Warrior workdays. Volunteer for one or all three this weekend: Bullis Local Park(opens in a new tab) on Friday, November 4, 8:30 am to 10:30 am; Rock Creek Stream Valley Park(opens in a new tab) on Saturday, November 5, 12 pm to 2 pm; and Meadowood Local Park(opens in a new tab) on Sunday, November 6, 2 pm to 4 pm.
