Per Taiwan Sister Cities: “Dear Friends, After our board meeting tonight, our board has decided that rain or shine go forward. This festival still will be hosted on this Saturday. 風雨生信心。-TSC Team”
The 2023 Taiwan Bubble Tea Festival will take place this Saturday, September 23rd from 10am until 4pm at Rockville Town Square. The event is being held by Taiwan Sister Cities, an organization “dedicated to promoting, educating, and fostering intercultural understanding and cooperation among the people of the United States and the people of Taiwan.”
Participating vendors include Tiger Sugar, Cuppa Tea, ShareTea, Kyoto Macha, Blowfish Poke & Grill, and more. This year’s Taiwan Bubble Tea Festival is a great occasion for those seeking to learn Mandarin, as Taiwan Sister Cities will be providing information on Mandarin learning resources and opportunities at the event. Taiwan is home to numerous high-quality institutions that offer Mandarin language classes to non-native speakers. We have also set up Taiwan Centers for Mandarin Learning (TCML) and regularly send highly qualified Mandarin lecturers to teach at educational institutions in the United States. There are currently 54 TCMLs in the U.S., with 4 TCMLs in the Greater Washington, D.C., area: Chantilly, Virginia; Burke, Virginia; Potomac, Maryland; and Baltimore, Maryland.
Organizers have also set up a “Learn & Study in Taiwan” website to introduce American students to the opportunities to learn Mandarin in Taiwan and encourage them to experience Taiwan’s multicultural society. The website also contains testimonials from previous students and a FAQ section with other useful information for prospective students. A Taiwanese cultural center is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, which promotes Taiwanese culture as well as education and business opportunities. This cultural center, open Tuesdays through Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., is a great starting point for locals who want to learn Mandarin as a second language.
