The Growing Years Consignment Shop to Close After 30 Years of Serving the Community

Sandra Lucas, owner of Kensington consignment shop The Growing Years for the last 30 years, has announced that the shop will be closing on November 18th. Lucas worked at a consignment store in college and had such a great experience working there during my winter and summer vacations that she moved into a full-time position upon graduating, according to her website. With  encouragement from family and friends, she bought The Growing Years in 1998 and has operated the store ever since. The full letter announcing the closure, titled “Thank You and Farewell” can be seen below:

Dear Consignors and Customers,

It is with a heavy heart and a mix of emotions that I write this letter to you today. After 30 years of serving this community, it is with a sense of sadness and nostalgia that I announce the closure of The Growing Years. The store’s final day of operation will be Saturday, November 18th. This has been an incredibly difficult decision for me to make, and one that I did not take lightly. While the store has been a remarkable success, it is time for me to embark on a new chapter in my life. I am ready for new challenges and to spend more time with my family.

The Growing Years has been a labor of love and dedication that I am beyond proud of. Over the years, I have witnessed the growth and transformation of the store, and I am grateful for the support and loyalty you have shown me throughout my journey as a business owner. The memories we have created together, the stories shared, and the friendships formed have made this experience truly remarkable.

During this time, for those consignors who brought fall and winter consignments, and would like to pick up any unsold items, please fill out the attached form. As you can imagine, this is a very hectic time, so if you have any questions, we would appreciate you sending us an email and we will respond within 48 hours. Checks can be picked up during store hours until the 18th of November. Again, it has been an absolute privilege to serve this community, and I will forever
cherish the relationships made during my time here at The Growing Years.

With warm regards and heartfelt gratitude,

Sandra Lucas

Karen joined the Well-Paid Maids team as a cleaner in January 2021, and she was recently promoted to an operations manager! This well-deserved promotion is part of Well-Paid Maids' effort to deliver better customer service with responses to phone calls and emails seven days a week. To celebrate Karen's promotion, we caught up with her to learn more about her time at Well-Paid Maids, the area's only certified living-wage cleaning company.

 1. Why Well-Paid Maids?

Karen: I saw the company was paying a living wage and had great benefits. Also, they were very flexible with my schedule, especially since I have kids.

 2. How has it been working at Well-Paid Maids?

Karen: I feel very appreciated at the company. This is the first job where I feel I'm able to speak about any issue and that management will support me.

 3. How has working at Well-Paid Maids benefitted you?

Karen: Because Well-Paid Maids pays a living wage, I can now spend more time with my kids and not work double shifts like I did at my old job.

 4. How do you plan to spend your PTO this year?

Karen: I look forward to traveling to El Salvador to visit my family there.

 5. How would you describe Well-Paid Maids as an employer in three words?

Appreciated, valued and opportunity
