Flower Theater Restoration Underway

The iconic neon sign that has been on the Flower Theater for over 70 years has been removed to get refabricated, as the facade is being repaired to look the way it did when it opened in 1950

Last month we let you know that MHP, a Montgomery County-based nonprofit affordable housing developer and community development organization in Silver Spring, will undertake a reconstruction of the historic façade of the former Flower Theater in the Long Branch neighborhood of Silver Spring, returning it to its original condition.

Montgomery Planning has provided the following information as well as a video showing a few scenes from the restoration and explaining a little more about the project:

“A piece of Montgomery County history is getting a long overdue makeover. The 73-year-old façade of the former Flower Theater building in Long Branch is being restored back to its appearance when it opened in 1950; the building closed as a theater in 1996. The property was added to the county’s Master Plan for Historic Preservation in 2014, and reconstruction plans include a new neon sign, new marquee lighting, and a restored ticket booth. Montgomery Planning’s camera crew was there last month when the neon sign was removed to be refabricated.”
