A Foot of Standing Water Has Accumulated at Busy Intersection Tuesday Afternoon


Approximately one foot of standing water has accumulated at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and eastbound University Blvd, according to Takoma Park Police.

This issue has resulted in traffic congestion. the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is currently on the scene. Safety Precautions, per Takoma Park Police:

• Avoid the intersection if possible:  If your route allows, please consider using an alternative path to avoid the affected intersection until the issue is resolved.

• Reduce speed:  If you must travel through the intersection, reduce your speed to ensure better control of your vehicle in the standing water.

• Follow traffic signals and signs:  Pay close attention to traffic signals and signs.  Follow the guidance provided by traffic controllers and any temporary signs indicating alternate routes or detours.

• Emergency vehicles have priority:  Allow emergency vehicles to pass through the area promptly.  Give them the right of way to ensure swift response in case of any emergencies.

• Be safe and alert!
