Person Detained Following Fire That Displaced 12 People on Thanksgiving Night

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a fire on the 2800 block of Kingswell Drive, off of Judson Rd. in Wheaton-Glenmont on Thursday night at approximately 10pm.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, multiple units responded to the fire that involved the sunroom and first floor of the single family home. All occupants were able to remove themselves from the home prior to the arrival of the fire department.

In a 2:16am update, Piringer stated that a person of interest was detained by Montgomery County Police and that 12 people were displaced and being assisted by Red Cross. There were no injuries. MCFRS firefighters will be in the area of the 2800Blk of Kingswell Drive with fire safety information & checking smoke alarms from 10am-11:30am on Friday morning.
