Ms. Anita O’Neill has been named acting principal at Clarksburg High School, effective January 1st. She will be taking over for Mr. Edward Owusu, who announced his upcoming retirement last month. The full letter to the community can be seen below, as well as a message from Ms. O’Neill herself.
“Dear Clarksburg High School Community:
As the director of school support and well-being for Clarksburg High School, I am writing to inform you of an interim staffing change. On January 1, 2024, Ms. Anita O’Neill will be the acting principal for Clarksburg High School. Ms. O’Neill will serve as acting principal through June 30, 2024. Mr. Edward Owusu, the principal, will work with Ms. O’Neill to ensure a smooth transition to the acting principal role. Once again, I want to thank Mr. Owusu for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the Clarksburg Cluster and wish him the best in retirement, which begins on January 1, 2024.
Ms. O’Neill is currently the principal intern at Kingsview Middle School. With 27 years in education, Ms. O’Neill has a rich background of experiences in middle school and high school, including nine years of administrative experience at James Hubert Blake High School.
In her new role as acting principal, Ms. O’Neill will continue her collaborative work with the students, staff, parents/guardians, and the various parent groups that support the academic and social-emotional well-being initiatives.
In the spring, we will start the principal selection process with MCPS, which requires input from school staff and community members. As director of school support and well-being, my office will facilitate stakeholder meetings to collect essential leadership characteristics for this principal vacancy.
Please join me in officially welcoming Ms. O’Neill as acting principal at Clarksburg High School.
Sincerely,
Christophe Turk
Director of School Support and Well-Being”
