This Thursday, a bench made from the 300-year-old Linden Oak Tree will be unveiled to the public.
The bench was made from the remains of the tree, which was removed earlier this year due to declining health. The sculpture marks the final stop for the three-hundred-year-old champion tree, which experts say stood in present day Montgomery County since the founding of the nation. The tree was previously located at the juncture of Rockville Pike and Beach Drive. What: Linden Oak tree bench unveiling

The Linden Oak bench was funded through a grant from the Montgomery Parks Foundation. Artist Colin Vail used a chainsaw and other woodworking tools to transform the salvageable Linden Oak wood into a functional piece of art that represents the origin of the tree and the world it existed in 300 years ago.
The artist and Montgomery Parks officials will be available for interviews after the bench unveiling. Courtesy of Montgomery Parks
