Stone Mill Elementary School celebrated its National Blue Ribbon distinction with a school assembly on December 13, raising the coveted flag bestowed by the U.S. Department of Education in September.
As the 43rd MCPS school to earn this prestigious title, the recognition acknowledges the collective efforts of students, educators, families, and communities in fostering safe and inclusive learning environments where students excel in challenging subjects.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools award is a testament to Stone Mill’s commitment to academic excellence and progress in narrowing achievement gaps among student groups. With over 550 students, the school was honored as an Exemplary High Performing award winner. Remarkably, more than three-quarters of its students are identified as gifted and talented, working above grade level, or both.
Additionally, Stone Mill hosts the largest special education preschool program in MCPS, with around 20 percent of its students being English Language Learners.
