There have been plenty of changes in Aspen Hill and surrounding areas in the last year or so, and in this article we have compiled a list of everything that has closed, opened, and is coming soon to the area:

Vegetable Garden, a “truly vegan restaurant” located at 3830 International Drive in Leisure World Plaza,  has closed after nearly 30 years in business. The restaurant, which offered health-conscious and vegan Chinese cuisine has been a staple in the community since its arrival- becoming one of former Senator and Vice Presidential nominee Joe Lieberman’s favorite places to eat, according to the restaurant. Tuesday Morning, an off-price retailer of home goods and décor, closed both Montgomery County locations- Aspen Hill (13832 Georgia Avenue in the Northgate shopping center) and Rockville (1616 East Jefferson St. #12B in Congressionak Plaza). According to a Business Insiderreport, “the chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday. As part of the process, the retailer wants to close 265 stores across the US, or more than half of all of its stores, according to a document filed in bankruptcy court in Northern Texas.” More here.

Boston Market has closed its last remaining Montgomery County location when the restaurant at 3825 Aspen Hill Rd in Northgate Plaza (Aspen Hill) closed permanently. Boston Market closed its Gaithersburg location back in April also closed its White Oak location in early 2020. More here.

Disc Golf: The planned disc golf course at Northwest Branch Recreational Park (Aspen Hill/Silver Spring) will be the first 18-hole course in a Montgomery Parks property (there is one in Montgomery County at Seneca Creek State Park) . The future course will be designed as a fully accessible, multigenerational facility for people of all ages and skill levels and can host local and regional disc golf tournaments. The planned project will also include a group picnic shelter adjacent to the 18th hole. For more information, please visit the project page.

Charleys Cheesesteaks opened its third new restaurant of the year in September at 13617 Connecticut Ave. in the Aspen Hill shopping center. More here.

Sephora opened inside of Kohl’s in Aspen Hill this past summer. after Kohl’s announced a major partnership with Sephora that would open 850 Sephora “shop-in-shops” in Kohl’s locations across the country by 2023, in a similar deal to the one struck between Target and Ulta. Sephora previously had a partnership with J.C. Penney that has been slowly winding down ever since J.C. Penney filed for bankruptcy in 2020. More here.

Floor & Decor: This store opening marks the company’s seventh store in the Washington DC market, and second in Montgomery County (Gaithersburg), including six warehouse stores and one Design Studio. The Floor & Decor warehouse store and design center opened earlier this year  with a team of about 50 full-time and part-time associates led by Benjamin Whitting, the new store’s Chief Executive Merchant, according to a recent press release. More here.

Mezeh: Back in February of 2019, Mezeh Mediterranean Grill closed its Wheaton Mall location and reported on its website that it will be relocating to the Aspen Hill shopping center. The would-be Aspen Hill location was later removed from the Mezeh website in 2020, but a representative from the shopping center told us the two sides still hoped to reach an agreement. Nearly three years later, it’s officially happening. Mezeh started construction on the old Jerry’s Subs & Pizza space earlier this year. An opening date is not yet available. More here.
