Commanders Have Moved Up To 3rd Pick in 2024 NFL Draft

The Commanders lost to the New York Jets today, which kept them at the 4th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft with a 4-11 record until the completion of tonight’s Sunday Night Football game.

The New England Patriots beat the Denver Broncos, 26-23, to move to 4-11 and below the Commanders in the draft order. Even with both teams at 4-11 and the Commanders having beat the Patriots head-to-head earlier this season, the draft order is based on strength of schedule (SOS). The Patriots have a slightly tougher SOS than the Commanders at this time, which gives the Commanders the third pick (image below).

Washington also beat Arizona, who currently holds the 2nd pick, and is one game behind them. Arizona’s SOS is currently better than Washington’s, so another Commanders loss and an Arizona win can jump the team up to the 2nd pick.

With quarterback Sam Howell’s play slipping the second half of the season, and him being benched the last two games, the Commanders could be looking at a quarterback with their pick, especially if it ends up in the top 2.
