Jim Brown, the longtime President of the Commissioners for the Town of Poolesville, has commented on the now-three year closure of White’s Ferry. His comments can be seen below:
“Three years of wasted time and effort and still no ferry crossing the river. See my comments below. More time spent trying to get the two owners to agree to a solution means less time spent on other real issues that affect our region. We’ll always want White’s Ferry to return to service but it’s time to move on, unfortunately.” Brown wrote.
“As the longtime President of the Commissioners for the Town of Poolesville, we can confirm this is one of the most confounding and frustrating situations we’ve ever experienced. Two of the richest, most prosperous counties in the country can’t find a way to solve a private dispute between millionaires, a dispute that has, in effect, held our town, and two public roadways, hostage for three years. It’s a political fail, a public interest fail, and an overall failure to take advantage of a very low-tech solution to the high-tech issue of traffic on the Western side of our region. PS — The talk of a bridge is nothing but a distraction. The amount of infrastructure needed to support a bridge (roads and connections), plus the cost of a bridge itself, could end up at half a billion dollars or more. This is about a boat crossing the river. A boat that has been in continuous service for 200+ years. It’s time for the two private owners to reach an agreement and end this farce of a stalemate. #freewhitesferry”
