Stephanie Gomer, teacher at Poolesville High School, has been named Maryland History Day High School Teacher of the Year. She will be honored at the Maryland History Day statewide awards ceremony on May 4.
The Town of Poolesville gave notice this week of a public hearing for the Town Commissioners to receive public comment on proposed changes to the use and requirements of backyard chickens. Per the town of Poolesville:
This past week, White’s Ferry owners-Chuck and Stacy Kuhn- formally offered to donate the White’s Ferry operation to Montgomery County. At his weekly media briefing, Elrich stated he believed it would take a year for the ferry to be operational, “I will say I believe it’ll take about a year to get it operational. By the time all of our legal stuff is being cleared and by the time the issues are settled in Virginia…”
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich released the following statement on Tuesday, April 16 regarding White’s Ferry owners Chuck and Stacy Kuhn offering to donate the ferry to Montgomery County:
On December 28, 2020, White’s Ferry ceased operations due to a dispute with Rockland Farm in Loudon County, VA over the ferry’s landing site. (more…)

White’s Ferry owners–Chuck and Stacy Kuhn–have formally offered to donate the White’s Ferry operation to Montgomery County. This most recent offer has been described by the Kuhn family as “part of their commitment to getting the ferry operational to preserve history, save jobs, and reduce traffic.”
Last year, The Comus Inn (23900 Old Hundred Rd, Dickerson) announced that it was sold and would be closing on November 26th, with new ownership taking over in December. Now, we know it will be reopening on Tuesday, April 16th.
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation has announced that beginning Friday, March 29, Ride On Route 76 (Shady Grove/Poolesville) will no longer serve The Crossvines Golf Course as a termination point for operational safety reasons.
For the taxable year beginning July 1, 2024, the Commissioners of the Town of Poolesville propose to increase real property tax rates from $ .1781 per $100 of assessment to $ .1859 per $100 of assessment.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a large brush fire (including grass and trees) at Old Hundred Rd near Comus Rd in the Boyds/Dickerson/Barnesville area at approximately 5pm on Wednesday evening.
The Town of Poolesville has made the 2024 Town of Poolesville Comprehensive Plan available for the public to review.
