Town of Poolesville To Discuss Proposed Changes to Rules For Backyard Chickens

The Town of Poolesville gave notice this week of a public hearing for the Town Commissioners to receive public comment on proposed changes to the use and requirements of backyard chickens. Per the town of Poolesville:

“Notice is hereby given that a Public Hearing will be held on May 6, 2024, at 7:00 PM at 19721 Beall Street, Poolesville, Maryland for the purpose of the Commissioners of Poolesville receiving public comment on Proposed Ordinance 228. The proposed ordinance amends Ordinance 224 of the Poolesville Code of Ordinances Zoning Code to address Backyard Chickens use and requirements.

Proposed Changes include:

  1. Reduce 100 Foot setback from adjacent dwellings to 50 feet.
  2. Reduces coup size requirements from 4 feet/chicken to 2 feet/chicken.
  3. Allows for up to 10 chickens on parcels larger than one acre”
