Earlier this month Eater DC released its list of “Essential Chinese Restaurants Around DC” and several Montgomery County restaurants made the list, including one that hasn’t opened yet (kind of). Don’t worry, we’ll explain.

Shanghai Taste, located at 1121 Nelson St. in Rockville: Shanghai Taste boasts of “honest cooking.” The restaurant has been in Rockville for over a decade, opening in 2013. “This cozy little restaurant highlights our passion for Shanghai related cuisine that gives you a taste of the exoticism of China. Our menu includes several dishes with hand-down recipes, all made in-house by our extremely valuable & talented chefs.”

Bob’s Shanghai 66, located at 305 N Washington St. in Rockville: Bob’s Shanghai 66 came in first place in a poll on “Favorite Maryland Restaurants” by Washingtonian readers. The decade-old restaurant has quickly become a staple locally. Bob’s Shanghai was founded in Rockville in 2013.

A&J Restaurant, located at 1319 Rockville Pike in Rockville: A&J  has served Northern Chinese fare on Rockville Pike for over 25 years. The restaurant is part of a family-owned chain that started when Alex Chang opened the first location in Taipei in the 1970s. A version it was brought to Los Angeles, and in 1996 Elaine Tang, who is Chang’s niece, and her family opened the Rockville location.

Joe’s Noodle House, located at 1488 Rockville Pike in Rockville: The restaurant writes “There are two ways to experience an authentic Szechuan Chinese restaurant. One is to hop on an airplane and fly to China; the other is to go to Joe’s Noodle House Chinese Restaurant in Rockville.”

Gourmet Inspirations, located at 2646 University Blvd W in Wheaton: Per the restaurant, “Gourmet Inspirations Chinese Restaurant offers authentic Chinese cuisine and delicious-tasting Dim Sum in Silver Spring, MD. Gourmet Inspirations’ convenient location and affordable prices make our restaurant a natural choice for dine-in or take-out meals in the Silver Spring. Our restaurant is known for its variety of tastes and high-quality fresh ingredients. Come and experience our friendly atmosphere and excellent service.”

Hollywood East Cafe, located at 11160 Veirs Mill Rd in Wheaton Mall: Chef Janet Yu and her family opened Hollywood East Cafe in Wheaton in 1996. The restaurant has grown and moved to the larger location in Wheaton Mall to accommodate customers wishing to dine at the restaurant.
