Brad Bell, the Maryland Bureau Chief for ABC7/WJLA-TV, has announced that he will be taking a break from his regular slots on ABC 7 as he recovers from hip replacement surgery.
“I seldom post anything personal but I feel like I should share that I’ll be away from this platform and not in my regular slots on @7NewsDC for a few weeks as I begin 2024 with a brand new hip! I guess I wore out the old one chasing stories. All went well and I’ll be back soon.” Bell shared on social media.
Per WJLA, Bell joined the station’s news team in 1991 and has received more than a dozen Emmy Awards for a variety of stories, including breaking the story of Pfisteria contamination in Maryland waters.
Prior to joining ABC7/WJLA-TV, he reported for WMAR-TV in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a general assignment and State House reporter from 1986 to 1991. During his tenure at WMAR-TV, Brad also covered environmental issues in “Project Environment,” a newscast segment.
Previously, he spent two years with Maryland Public TV as a State House and documentary reporter/producer. He has also been a field producer for Independent Network News in the Washington bureau on the Capitol Hill.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Maryland.
