Washington Has Verbal Agreement to Hire Dan Quinn as its Next Head Coach

The Washington Commanders have come to a verbal agreement to hire Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as the team’s new head coach, according to various reports.

Quinn came to prominence as the defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks from 2013 to 2014, serving as the defensive play-caller for the team’s “Legion of Boom” secondary. Under Quinn, Seattle led the league in defense and made two consecutive Super Bowl appearances, winning the franchise’s first in 2014.

Quinn was then named the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, where he spent six seasons. In Atlanta, he had a 3-2 playoff record, making it to the Super Bowl one time, in the 2016 season, losing to the New England Patriots 34-28 in the infamous game where the Falcons led 28-3 in the third quarter. Quinn has a 43-42 record as a head coach.

He has been the defensive coordinator in Dallas since 2021, where the team ranked in the top 10 in points allowed each year. Dallas has also led the league in takeaways twice in that span. He also has somewhat local ties, playing at nearby Salisbury as a defensive lineman from 1990-1993.
