McDonald’s Taking Over Old Arby’s Space in North Bethesda

Arby’s closed its last Montgomery County location at 11710 Rockville Pike in North Bethesda back in May of 2021. Now, Robert Dyer reports that McDonald’s will be its replacement.

In June 2021 Washington Business Journal (WBJ) reported that Shake Shack would be moving into the 11710 Rockville Pike space, but the deep negotiations fell through and the space has remained vacant for  early three years. At the time of the news, WBJ reported that “the property has a 2021 assessed value of $1.9 million — the land is nearly three times as valuable as the existing building.”

There is an existing McDonald’s at 11564 Rockville Pike, which was recently renovated, just one block from this upcoming location which is likely to take a while to construct. We spoke with employees at the current location, but they were unaware of the new restaurant or if this will end up being a relocation of that store. The major difference is that the old Arby’s location has a drive-thru while the existing nearby McDonald’s location does not.

We’ll update with additional information once it’s available.
