Rockville Police Arrest Germantown Man For Auto Theft Sunday Afternoon

The Rockville City Police Department arrested Phillip Andrew Murray, 31, of Germantown for Auto Theft early Sunday after responding to a call for a suspicious person at Ulta Beauty Supply at 1631 Rockville Pike.

According to Rockville Police: “Responding officers were advised a man was possibly armed with a handgun inside the store. Upon arrival, officers confronted Murray attempting to get into a Toyota passenger car in the parking lot. Officers quickly determined that the registration plates displayed on the vehicle did not belong on it. After resisting arrest, Murray was taken into custody and transported to Shady Grove Hospital for evaluation.

Investigation revealed the vehicle Murray was operating was stolen from Germantown, Maryland and the registration plates displayed on the vehicle were stolen from Prince George’s County, Maryland. Stolen merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods in Rockville was also recovered inside the vehicle. No firearms were recovered at the scene. Murray had outstanding arrest warrants through the Montgomery County Department of Police for Second Degree Escape, Possession of CDS with Intent to Distribute and Second-Degree Assault. The Rockville City Police Department has charged Murray with Auto Theft, Theft less than $100, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing/Hindering and Possession of CDS-Not Marijuana.

“The quick actions of our officers today further demonstrates their professionalism and commitment to keeping the City of Rockville safe,” said Chief Victor Brito.”
