Car Thief Arrested After App Tracks and Remotely Disables Vehicle

Chief Antonio DeVaul from the Takoma Park Police Department announces the arrest of Anthony Gomes, 26, of Silver Spring, Maryland, for unauthorized use of a stolen vehicle. He was arrested after the OnStar application tracked and disabled the vehicle.


According to police, “On February 6 at approximately 5:17 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 6900 block of New Hampshire Avenue (Sunoco) for the report of a stolen vehicle.  The vehicle, which was equipped with OnStar technology, was being pinged, indicating its location, after the ignition had been remotely disabled.  Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspect, identified as Gomes, still within the stolen vehicle. The vehicle in question had been reported stolen from Howard County, Maryland.

Gomes was arrested, charged accordingly, and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.”
