On Saturday, during ABC’s Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour, ABC confirmed that The Golden Bachelorette is official and in the works following the massive success of The Golden Bachelor.  Montgomery County’s very own Joan Vassos is in the running to be the star of the show.

The show will feature one woman, age 60 or above, searching for another chance at love through a sea of “golden bachelors” who will also be in the same age category. The initial show, The Golden Bachelor, featured bachelor Gerry searching for love. It seemed to happen quickly when Rockville, MD’s very own Joan Vassos stole his heart during her time on the show. Vassos’ time was cut short when she made the decision to return home and be with her daughter, who was having a tough time following a difficult pregnancy.

After winning an early episode’s talent show with a touching poem, and a one-on-one date with Gerry (the Golden Bachelor), she became a frontrunner in the competition. Sadly, that’s when she had to make the difficult decision to return home, but many feel that Joan would be the perfect Golden Bachelorette.

Would Joan be interested giving television another shot at finding love? “I would be open to it,” Joan, 60, said in a previous interview with E! News.  “I believe in the process. Oddly, I kind of came into this as a little bit skeptical and I see how it worked. It’s like speed dating on steroids. And people find love on the show and I want to find love still.”

While fans have clamored for other contestants to return as ABC’s first Golden Bachelorette, it’s Vassos’ early departure that left many wondering what could have been. “She had that competition wrapped up so early, I was so sad to see her go” commented a reader seconds after she announced she’d be returning home during The Golden Bachelor.

Details for the new show, including when it will be filmed and who will be in the cast, will be released at a later date.
