In the latest “Expected Snowfall” maps from the National Weather Service (NWS), a big portion of the area is now under the 5-8 inch range (upper portions of Montgomery, Loudoun, and Howard counties, and all of Frederick county).
The Winter Storm Warning was expanded earlier today and is in effect from 11pm on Friday until 5am on Saturday. The heaviest snow is expected to fall overnight with just about everyone waking up to st least a few inches of snow. Even the NWS “Low End Amount” map now shows 2-3 inches (10% chance) for most of the area.
We’ll continue to monitor as the storm moves into the area tonight.
Winter Storm Warnings have been expanded east to include much of central/northern MD as well as central/northern VA. Steadiest snowfall looks to arrive between 12-6am Saturday with 1-3"/hr snow rates. More on snow totals: https://t.co/ZOlvEShgSf. #MDwx #VAwx #WVwx #DCwx pic.twitter.com/mwsEnSZ9G8
