On Saturday we let you know that Outback Steakhouse closed its Germantown location after more than 30 years in business. The closure is part of parent company Bloomin’ Brands decision to close 41 restaurants across its portfolio that also includes nearby closures of Bonefish in Ashburn, VA and Carrabba’s in Reston, VA.
Bloomin’ Brands Inc. is the parent company to Outback Steakhouse, Bonefish Grill, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse, and other brands. On Friday, executives announced the decision to close 41 under-performing units.
David Deno, CEO of Bloomin’ Brands said I the following in an analysts call per NRN, “We periodically review our asset base and, in our latest review, we made the decision to close 41 underperforming locations. The majority of these restaurants were older assets with leases from the ’90s and early 2000s.”
Outback Germantown has been operating at 12609 Wisteria Dr. in the Germantown Square shopping center since the early 90s. In all, some closures have already occurred while 33 restaurants closed permanently on Friday. In Montgomery County, the Aspen Hill location remains open and a new Downtown Silver Spring location is expected to open in the coming months.
