With many asking if the solar eclipse will impact dismissal in any way, MCPS has addressed it via social media and in its staff bulletin addressing the eclipse and advising staff, students, and families to practice eclipse safety:
Via social media: “On Monday, April 8, we will experience a partial solar eclipse beginning approximately 2:04 p.m. with maximum solar coverage at approximately 3:20 p.m. Since the eclipse will occur around school dismissal times, staff, students and families should practice eclipse safety when outdoors.
Remember that a solar eclipse with such high coverage will not be repeated in North America for more than 20 years. @MCPL_Libraries is also giving away glasses to view the eclipse. Visit here to find your nearest library and get a pair: bit.ly/MCLP”
The staff bulletin noted, “People outside during this time should review this information on eclipse safety, as looking directly at the sun may cause eye injury. Some children may need supervision and support in practicing eclipse safety. Click here for a one-pager with safety tips and family activities.“
