In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before Judge Debbie Dwyer, a jury found defendant, Michael Boyd Jr., 40, of Olney, guilty of two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Per the office of the Montgomery County State’s Attorney: “The verdict was returned late yesterday evening. Boyd faces a maximum of 90 years in prison when he is sentenced on June 20, 2024.

This stems from an incident outside of the Sole D’Italia restaurant in the 14300 block of Layhill Road on July 13, 2023. A fight broke out behind the restaurant and the defendant arrived on scene shortly thereafter wielding a firearm and pointing it at multiple individuals. Four people were shot, including the defendant. An additional victim was injured by bullet fragments. The jury found Boyd intended to cause fear of physical bodily harm and used a firearm to do so.”

Assistant State’s Attorneys Gabriel Carrera and Jennifer Harrison are prosecuting this case.
