Metrorail Weekend Construction (May 11-12)

Courtesy WMATA

This weekend, May 11 – 12, the Morgan Boulevard and Downtown Largo stations will be closed on the Blue and Silver lines for weekend construction. Free shuttle buses will replace trains to/from the closed stations connecting to the Metrorail system at Addison Road. Additional maintenance is also scheduled on the Red and Green lines with trains single tracking through the work zones. More weekend updates below:

Per WMATA: As part of Metro’s Capital Improvement Program, work crews on the Blue and Silver lines will install radio and fiber-optic cables that enable cellular service and two-way communications for customers and Metro Transit Police, as well as future upgrades to rail communication systems.

On the Red Line, trains will single track between Van Ness and Friendship Heights for tunnel leak mitigation, sealing up any water leaks within the work zone. The area is part of the oldest tunnel sections in the Metrorail system and was designed and constructed prior to modern day tunnel standards for waterproofing.

On the Green Line, between Naylor Road and Branch Avenue, crews will replace rail ties and concrete grout pads which support the outdoor and indoor tracks. Additional deck waterproofing will also be completed.

Customers on the Orange and Yellow lines will have normal service and most stations in the downtown core service area will be unaffected by the weekend work. Trains will arrive on average every four minutes at stations between Rosslyn and Stadium-Armory on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines and between Mt Vernon Square and L’Enfant Plaza on the Yellow and Green lines.
