Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando released a statement on Friday regarding the recent threats made to public schools. Jawando is the chair of the Education & Culture Committee that focuses in part on issues relating to Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). This week threats were made to Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS, Whitman HS, and Bethesda ES. All were found to be non-credible.!His full statement can be seen below:
“The recent reports of threats at different schools across the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) district is distressing and we cannot tolerate this behavior.
I know MCPS is working closely with local and regional law enforcement authorities and they have kept our children safe during these troubling events. Threats to the safety of students or staff are unacceptable and disrupt learning.
Every threat is taken seriously and I share the anxiety, worry, and anger that families and our broader community are feeling. We must all be vigilant in our collective efforts to keep our schools safe.”
