MCPS will honor its retiring employees during a reception on Thursday, June 6. The event will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville. We wanted to honor a special teacher who is retiring after 36 years in the profession–Julie Lynch. Julie is the mother of The MoCoShow’s first intern ever, John Lynch. She will be finishing up her final year as the rating specialist at Stone Mill Elementary School, where she has been the reading specialist for the last 24 years.
Lynch graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in 1984. She took off to Western PA to attend Westminster College and earned her Education degree in 1988. She began her teaching career as a 4th grade teacher at Myersville ES in Frederick County where NBC4 meteorologist Amelia Draper was one of her 4th grade students. Julie was married June of 1990 to John Lynch and they began their life together in Germantown. Their daughter Morgan was born in April of 1994 and is currently one of the top public defenders in Baltimore City. In December of 1997 they welcomed their son John into the world. About 20 years later, he talked MoCoShow founder Alex Tsironis into creating an intern position and produced some great segments for the YouTube page. John moved on from the MoCoShow to become the Marketing Editor for an online stock company.
In 2000, the commute to Frederick was getting to be too long so Julie made the jump to MCPS where she has been the reading specialist at Stone Mill Elementary School for the last 24 years. During her tenure she made sure her students continued reading during the summery delivering books to her students each week– a tradition she continued for 15 years. In her free time she loves to read and hang out with her two kids. She has planned a retirement trip to Greece with her family.
