Has Rockville/MoCo found a new venue for outdoor concerts? The City of Rockville’s Hometown Holidays Music Fest is in its second day today at RedGate Park (14500 Avery Road) in Rockville and fans are pouring in to catch a performance by alternative rock band Everclear, whose career spans four decades and many memorable hits.
Germantown resident Josh Smith tells us he has brought his family to the event, primarily to see Everclear- a band he was a fan of growing up. “Hometown Holidays is looking like the lawn portion of Jiffy Lube Live or Merriweather Post Pavilion right now” he told us, just a few minutes before Everclear was set to take the stage.
The event is a free festival featuring two stages of music; kids activities including amusements (fee), entertainment, sand dunes, and yard games; beverage booths; and sponsor and city services booths, but the free Everclear performance seems to be the driving factor in bringing hundreds of people to the festival at once. “Parking wasn’t bad at all. We parked far away, just so we can get away with the kids after the show, but they may have something here” Smith said.
We spoke with Dean T., a resident of Purcellville, VA, who drove with his family to watch the show. “It took about an hour to get here, but parking was easy and our son has been running around having fun while we are having a few bites to eat and a couple drinks before the show.”
Everclear is set to perform from 5:45pm until 7pm on Sunday. “Emerging from the 1990s alternative scene, Everclear’s career includes 11 studio releases and over 6 million records sold on the strength of 12 top-40 singles, including “Santa Monica,” “Father of Mine,” “I Will Buy You a New Life,” “Wonderful” and “Everything to Everyone.”
