MCFRS Crews Honored For Saving the Life of a Person Who Was Pinned Beneath a Vehicle

Crews from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service’s Paramedic Engine 732 (Travilah) and M708 (Gaithersburg) were presented with a distinguished service citation for their work to save the life of a person who was trapped underneath a vehicle during an incident last July.

“On July 2, 2023, at 1405 hours, units were dispatched for a report of an ALS2 Entrapment with one stuck under the car. PE732 had just cleared a nearby call and arrived on the scene in less than three minutes to find one patient pinned under the front of a vehicle.

Just over one minute from the time the crew of PE732 dismounted the engine, the car was stabilized, a rapid lift using a roof ladder was completed, and the patient was quickly extricated. PE732 used prior training and incident knowledge and had their “game plan” in place prior to arrival.

The quick and decisive thinking of Captain Horrell and the rapid deployment of the equipment by him and his crew are what enabled them to complete their rescue effort so efficiently.

The patient was alive upon being extricated and was quickly assessed which revealed significant traumatic injuries. The crew of M708 along with the medic from PE732 provided top-notch ALS care to the patient which included rapid transport to the hospital.

The patient was alive upon arrival at the hospital where they began receiving definitive care. All crews on the scene worked well together toward the common goal of saving this patient’s life.”
