A 31-year-old Silver Spring man was sentenced today to 27-years in prison for a near-fatal attack on his landlord in April 2020 in a home on the 9700 block of Hastings Drive.
According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable Margaret Schweitzer sentenced defendant, Geofrey Gaitan, 31, of Silver Spring, to 30 years in prison suspend all but 27 years to serve and five years of supervised probation upon release.
A jury found the defendant guilty on April, 24, 2024, of attempted murder in the second degree for a near-fatal attack on his landlord. Gaitan beat the then 63-year-old victim, hitting him several times with two solid wood table legs and stomping on his head after he fell to the ground. The victim suffered multiple skull fractures and permanent, traumatic brain injury.
The conviction was a result of the third jury trial in this case. Two previous trials ended with a hung jury, but the State remained committed to seeking justice for the victim and his family, and preventing the defendant from being released into the community.”
