Manmitha Jinasena (Moni), a rising sophomore at Seneca Valley High School, represented Maryland and won a Silver medal for Kata at the USA Karate Nationals! Her journey began in Sri Lanka at just 8-years-old and she has dreams of joining the National team, MCPS recently shared.
She is a student at Senshi Karate Do in Montgomery Village. According to Senshi, the national tournament was in Lafayette, Louisiana this year. Senshi wrote, “We are the only school that represents the state of Maryland. Last year Nationals took place in Richmond, VA. We took 17 competitors and 12 of them brought National medals. We are so proud of you Moni.”
Last year, Fabianna Herrera, an instructor/Sensei at Senshi Karate-Do, won the National Gold Medal in two categories – Women’s 16-34 Kata and Style Specific, at th3 USANKF Karate Championship.
