A Gaithersburg man is facing up to 49 years in prison for assaulting two Montgomery County Police Officers during an incident in June 2023.
According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before the Honorable John Maloney, a jury has found defendant, Jermaine Palmer, 36, of Gaithersburg, guilty on charges of first-degree assault, second-degree assault on law enforcement, second-degree assault, resisting arrest, and possession of CDS (not cannabis). Palmer faces up to 49 years in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 6, 2024.
This stems from an incident on June 30, 2023, in the 7900 block of Spiceberry Circle in Gaithersburg. Montgomery County Police officers responded for a report of a person spraying a fire extinguisher in the hallway of an apartment building. As one of the officers approached Palmer, the defendant punched him in the face, causing the officer to fall back and hit his head on pavement, leaving him unconscious. The officer was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Palmer ran toward the Flower Hills Shopping center where he then assaulted another officer as they worked to take him into custody inside of a fast-food restaurant.
Assistant State’s Attorney Teresa Casafranca is prosecuting this case.”
