Annual Farmers Market Pie Contest Takes Place September 15th

The Takoma Park Farmers Market is hosting its annual pie contest on Sunday, September 15th on Laurel Avenue in Takoma Park. The event is a fundraiser for the market’s Federal Benefit Match Program and since its inception, has raised over $10,000 to extend shoppers’ ability to buy fresh local food at the market.

The market invites home bakers and professional bakers to enter their best 1 or 2 crust pies made using seasonal ingredients available at the market – sweet or savory. Celebrity judges taste the pies and winners are named in the following categories: Best Apple Pie, Best Peach Pie, Best Other Pie – Sweet, Best Other Pie – Savory, Best Kid’s Pie, Most Unusual Pie, Yummy Mess Award, and Professional Baker.
