Police and County Transportation Team Clear Illegally ‘Saved’ Parking Spots

District 3 (Silver Spring) Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Commander Jason Cokinos shared earlier this week that officers along with Montgomery County Department of Transportation employees teamed up to remove objects that were “saving” parking spots in Silver Spring.

Cokinos wrote that, “blocking spots on the public street to save parking is not allowed. Earlier today your 3rd District Traffic Complaint Officers teamed up with MCDOT to respond to community complaints about objects placed on the public right of way to “save” parking spots. This was around the 11th Avenue, Quebec Terrace, & Ruatan Street neighborhood.”

The team cleaned up almost two miles of road, filling three dump trucks with a variety of objects and cones that were presumably saving parking spots in the area. In an interview with FOX5, Cokinos said that nobody leaving these objects behind is being cited or arrested and that the county is taking additional steps to solve the problem, noting that officials plan to make the area permit parking in the coming months.
