Police Respond to Theft Scheme Incident That Ends With Thousands of Dollars Stolen

On October 15 at approximately 4:15 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to a theft scheme reported at Ria Money Exchange, located inside Megamart Supermarket in the 1100 block of  University Blvd. The incident occurred on October 13, 2024, around 3:30 pm.

According to police, “An employee reported that a woman requested to exchange $4,900 in $50 bills for the same amount in $100 bills. During the exchange, the woman began yelling at the employee, creating a distraction.

Taking advantage of the situation, the woman concealed $2,700 under the counter while continuing to argue. She then claimed she no longer wanted to complete the exchange and demanded her money back. Unaware of the theft, the employee returned the full $4,900.
