Coming Soon to Gaithersburg: Fall 2024

Below is a list of restaurants and businesses that will be coming soon to Gaithersburg, MD.

Bangkok Garden (concept)
Bangkok Garden has leased the space that was the longtime home of Good Fortune Cafe in Kentlands Square.

Bangkok Garden first opened started back in 1984 by two Thai immigrants, Visith and Yupin Laohapant, who came to America in hopes of being able to share a part of their culture through Thai Food. They served the Bethesda community for 37 years later before closing in 2021. The restaurant opened a Rockville location in November 2019, with a menu focus on Thai street foods– “the hot, sizzling, tasty dishes that you would find in the night markets of Bangkok and Chiang Mai.” We are told the Kentlands location may have a different name, but could also offer some of the menu items from the Bethesda restaurant.

Good Fortune has cleared out and the restaurant is empty. No word on any potential remodeling or an opening timeframe for the new restaurant yet, but we’ll keep you updated. Featured photo shows Moo Yang (grilled pork skewers served w sticky rice) over Pad Thai from Bangkok Garden Rockville

Bearded Goat Barber
Bearded Goat Barber is coming soon to 720 Center Point Way in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood. The barbershop is taking over the space that was home to Sport Clips from April 2014 until April 2024. The barbershop is expected to open in November.

Bearded Goat Barber Shop was started by entrepreneur Scott Parker (who owns various restaurants and bars in the DMV, including Don Tito in Arlington) and barbers Eric Renfro and Jon Dodson. Its first location in Ballston opened in 2019, with additional locations in D.C.’s Navy Yard in 2″20 and in Shirlington, VA in 2021, according to ARLnow. “Bearded Goat Barber offers a full array of haircut styles, shape-ups, and grey blending. If a shave is what you’re looking for, we provide a relaxing straight razor hot towel shave. We also specialize in beard shaping and sculpting. Put your trust in us, and let our clippers and scissors do the work.

Buffalo Wild Wings Go
Buffalo Wild Wings introduced its first ‘Buffalo Wild Wings GO’ location, a scaled-down version of the restaurant that focuses on the to-go and delivery format, in Georgia back in 2020. Now, the company has signed on for its second location in the county (possibly first, depending on which one opens first).

In March 2022, we let you know the restaurant will open its first ‘Go’ concept in the upcoming Crossroads at Kensington development– a new retail development that will be located at 10619 Connecticut Avenue (at Plyers Mill Road) in Kensington. Now, we know an additional location is coming to the Rock Grove Center on the corner of 355 and Shady Grove Rd next to Qdoba.

The new-look and new-name Rock Grove Center is also currently home to mainstay Minerva, a relocated Dunkin’, Atlas Pharmacy, Rise Southern Biscuits and Righteous Chicken, and more. It looks like BWW Go is in the early stages of construction, so it’s unknown which of the two locations will open first. We’ll have an update when an opening date/timeframe is available.

Chef Ngee Kitchen Jollof Rice Drive Thru
Chef Ngee Kitchen is coming soon to 18523 N. Frederick Ave. in the Gaithersburg S.C. shopping center. Chef Ngee will be located below the All African Food Store, in the space that was previously occupied by a bank. According to a representative at the location, the restaurant is “not far off” from opening.

Jollof rice is a popular West African dish made with long-grain rice, tomatoes, chilies, onions, and spices.

Gaithersburg S.C. is home to Bruster’s Ice Cream, Corner Pizza, and Pho Nom Nom. The shopping center was also once home to Hechinger, the hardware store that once had over 130 locations in the Mid-Atlantic. We will prove an update on Chef Ngee Kitchen when an opening date is announced.

Dollar Tree
In May, we reported that Dollar Tree had signed on to move in to the vacant space that was recently home to Privai Spa and previously home to Mynd Spa and Red Door Spa at 62 Market St in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood. While an opening date has not been announced, permanent signage has recently been installed on the building.

Dollar Tree, which has MoCo locations in Damascus, Derwood, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Montgomery Village, Rockville, Silver Spring, and Wheaton has added “Dollar Tree Plus” sections to area stores. Items in the “Plus” section are priced $3 and $5.  New higher priced items include cookware, headphones, chargers, and t-shirts (Baby Yoda, Lilo & Stich, etc.)  similar to those found at FiveBelow.

Häagen-Dazs
Häagen-Dazs is coming 211 Market St W, in the space previously occupied by Bel Pre Family Dental.  Häagen-Dazs stores offer “irresistible creations made with Haagen-Dazs super-premium ice cream and sorbet.” The ice cream brand has seen a resurgence as of late, opening new shops across the country with fun giveaways at the grand opening celebrations. Recent openings have offered free mini cups or cones for the first 500 guests, scratch-off cards to win free ice cream for a year, and more. We will provide an update if a grand opening event is announced for this location.

Häagen-Dazs currently has additional Montgomery County locations at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda and at 1516 Rockville Pike. The brand closed its Bethesda Row store in the summer of 2021 after about a decade of business at the location.

Koi Sushi
Koi Sushi will be taking the vacant space between Chipotle and Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls. We are currently working to find out information regarding any possible connection between the Koi Sushi restaurant moving into the space and any existing local eatery with Koi in its and will have an update on that for you soon.

Kong Dog
Earlier this year we let you know Kong Dog was opening a Gaithersburg location. Permanent signage is now up at Kong Dog at 12141 Darnestown Rd at the Shops at Potomac Valley shopping center. The restaurant, which offers unique corn dog combinations, is taking over the space that was the longtime home to Neal’s Bagels, before it moved to the Kentlands neighborhood last summer. Kong Dog has been opening up restaurants across the country and has upcoming nearby locations in Georgetown and Arlington.

The menu can be seen on the restaurant’s website, and offers unique corn dog combinations that include churro kong dogs, rainbow kong dogs (made with Fruity Pebbles or something similar), ramen kong dogs, and a lot more. We will provide an update when an opening date is announced.

KOR Artisanal Bistro
KOR Artisanal Bistro is coming to 216 Main Street in Gaithersburg, taking over the space previously occupied by Kathy’s Gallery & Frames. At this point, we have limited information about KOR Artisanal Bistro. Interior work on the restaurant does not yet appear to have begun, and there is no specified opening timeframe. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Mayan Monkey Brewing Co.
The former site of Growlers and Summit Station Brewery will soon be home to Mayan Monkey Brewing Co., a new concept from the owners of local establishments Taco Bar El Guero (Rio area), Ixtapalapa (Gaithersburg) and La Gula Mexicana (Germantown). Mayan Monkey Brewing Co. will be serving a mixed menu of Mexican and American food (pretzels, Burgers). Live music will continue in the upstairs portion of the space, and the downstairs area will include full-service dining.  While an opening date is not yet available, there has been a lot of movement inside the location the past few weeks.

Quincy’s Clubhouse
Last June we let you know that Quincy’s officially signed a lease to bring its new concept, Quincy’s Club House, to 245 Kentlands Blvd. The country club style restaurant, bar, and golf venue is taking over the location that was recently home to Not Your Average Joe’s. A $990,000 permit to begin alterations in the space was approved this past spring and now ownership tells us that they’re hoping for a Fall opening.

Abramson Construction is currently doing the fitout work for the upcoming location. The space was cleared following an auction for the contents of the shuttered Not Your Average Joe’s in the spring. Per our previous report, fans of the original Quincy’s, located just a couple miles away at 616 Quince Orchard Rd, will be happy to hear that there is no current plan to close the existing bar and grill and that ownership believes both restaurant are sustainable due to the difference in concepts.

TOUS les JOURS
Construction is currently ongoing at TOUS les JOURS, a French-Asian bakery that will be taking over the space previously occupied by Corner Bakery at 1 Grand Corner Ave. Corner Bakery closed back on February 22nd after nearly 25 years in business at the location. A representative from TOUR les JOURS tells us they plan to open in November.

Last year, TOUS les JOURS opened a location inside of New Grand Mart (13069 Wisteria Dr) in Germantown. The majority of TOUS les JOURS are independently owned and operated and the Germantown and upcoming Gaithersburg location are not affiliated. The French-Asian Bakery features a variety of breads, pastries, and cakes that are baked in-store daily, as well as a wide selection of coffee/espresso based drinks and teas.

Per the bakery: “Since its launch in the United States in 2004, TOUS les JOURS has developed into a reputable bakery & café franchise, specializing in French-Asian-inspired baked goods, passionately made from the finest ingredients.
