Handgun With Laser Displayed in Attempted Armed Robbery Thursday Night

On October 24, at approximately 10:55 p.m., Takoma Park Police responded to the 7700 block of Takoma Avenue for the report of an attempted armed robbery.

According to police, “At approximately 10:30 pm, the victim was riding his bicycle on the pedestrian sidewalk near Buffalo Avenue and Takoma Avenue when an unknown suspect in a dark four-door sedan confronted him at gunpoint. The sedan approached from Takoma Avenue, heading southeast, coming to a complete stop next to the victim.

The front passenger of the vehicle—a Black male wearing a ski mask, hoodie, and dark jeans—exited the vehicle and made a threatening gesture towards his waistband, then produced a handgun described as a black Glock with a green laser. The suspect pointed the gun at the victim, prompting the victim to flee on foot, leaving his bicycle behind. The suspect briefly pursued the victim northbound on Takoma Avenue before abandoning the chase and returning to the sedan, driven by a second suspect, a Black male wearing all black with a ski mask. The suspects then fled southeast on Takoma Avenue toward Piney Branch Road.

Officers recovered the victim’s bicycle. The victim was not physically injured.  Officers conducted an area search with negative results. Lookout information was provided to all surrounding jurisdictions.  This investigation is ongoing.

Investigators are asking that anyone with information about this incident, or knows the identities of the suspects, please contact the Takoma Park Police Department at 301-270-1100 and refer to case #240051041.”
