As autumn settles in, many are eagerly anticipating the return of an extra hour of sleep while others lament how early it will be getting dark. With fall in the air, pumpkin spice lattes in full force, and temperatures gradually cooling down (though you wouldn’t be able to tell today and tomorrow), the changing of the clocks is another sign of the season. Video of a fall morning in the area can be seen below.
Daylight saving time will officially end at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 3. At that moment, clocks will fall back one hour to mark the transition back to standard time. While many devices, such as smartphones and computers, will automatically adjust to the new time, non-smart devices including microwaves, some car radios, and traditional clocks may require manual changes.
As we prepare to reset our clocks, several organizations, including the American Red Cross, the Defense Logistics Agency, and the National Fire Protection Association, advise taking this opportunity to change the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. This simple task can help ensure safety as we enter the colder months, when heating systems are in use.
