This afternoon, Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) patrol officers operating in the central business district (4th district) responded to a report of shoplifting at the JC Penney store located in Wheaton Mall. Upon arrival, officers encountered an adult male suspected of theft.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect was in possession of a loaded firearm, which raised the stakes of the situation significantly. Further checks revealed that he also had an outstanding warrant for first-degree burglary.
In a coordinated effort, the officers safely apprehended the individual without incident. The suspect is now in custody, where he will face charges related to the shoplifting incident, as well as the outstanding warrant for burglary. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.
