Montgomery County Police Boost Holiday Patrols Amid Rise in Retail Theft

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has announced plans to increase patrols, including visible and undercover officers, drones, and camera systems, across all six districts to enhance safety in retail areas during the holiday season.

MCPD 3rd District Commander Jason Cokinos said that crimes such as shootings have decreased by 62%, auto thefts by 42%, robberies by 25%, and carjackings by 50%, retail theft has seen a 25% increase.

Each District Commander will use resources, both visible and undetectable, patrol officers, foot patrols, bike patrols, plain clothes officers, camera systems as well as Drone as First Responder to protect retail areas and provide a sense of safety for business owners, employees, and shoppers. We want everyone to feel safe as they shop and gather to enjoy the holidays.”
