The Washington Commanders beat the New Orleans Saints 20-19 on Sunday, to move to 9-5 after two straight wins. They would be the 7th seed in the NFC if the playoffs were to start today. Next week. The 12-2 Eagles comes to town, but let’s take a look at some fun facts from today’s game:
• Quarterback Jayden Daniels is the first rookie and fifth player in NFL history with a completion percentage of 80-or-higher in 4 games in a season (min. 20 attempts each game). He joins Drew Brees (2018), Kirk Cousins (2019), Trevor Lawrence (2022) & Dak Prescott (2023).
• Wide Receiver Terry McLaurin has surpassed 900 receiving yards for the sixth straight season. McLaurin has recorded at least 900 receiving yards and 50 receptions in six seasons and is one of four wide receivers joining Mike Evans, AJ Green and Randy Moss as the only wide receivers in NFL history to accomplish the feat.
• Defensive Tackle Daron Payne has recorded his fourth sack of the season and the 34th of his career. With that sack, Payne moves into top-10 in Washington history since 1982.
• Quarterback Jayden Daniels has thrown for 3,045 passing yards and rushed for 656 yards this season. He becomes the third rookie to have thrown for over 3,000 passing yards and rushed for over 600 yards. He joins Cam Newton and Robert Griffin III as the only other rookies to do so in NFL history.
• Wide Receiver Terry McLaurin scored two touchdowns on the day, giving him his fourth multi-touchdown game of the season and the sixth of his career. It is the first time in his career he has done so in consecutive games.
• With nine wins this season, Head Coach Dan Quinn joins George Allen as the only head coaches in franchise history to win nine-plus games in their first season as head coach with the organization.
• The Washington Commanders have scored points in the first quarter in 13-staright games, the longest active streak in the NFL.
• With their 9-5 record, Washington has their best start through 14 games since 1992. Washington is 6-3 against NFC opponents, their best start against NFC opponents in a single season since 2018.
• The Commanders have now rushed for 2,163 yards as a team. They have moved past the 1981 team (2,157) for No. 10 all-time in franchise history in rushing yards by the team in a single season.
• Terry McLaurin has recorded multiple touchdowns in a single half twice this season. He is the first Washington player to record multiple touchdowns in a single half of a game twice in a single season since TE Jordan Reed did so in 2015.
