The Washington Commanders defeated the Detroit Lions (1 seed in the NFC) to advance to the NFC Championship game, 45-31. Washington will play against the winner of the Los Angeles Rams/Philadelphia Eagles game next week. Below we have 10 fun facts that occurred during Washington’s big win:
• Washington is in the NFC Championship game for the first time since the 1991 season.
• Defensive End Dorance Armstrong forced his first postseason fumble of his career.
• Linebacker Frankie Luvu recovered his first postseason fumble.
• Running back Brian Robinson Jr. rushed for his first (and second) postseason touchdown.
• Wide Receiver Terry McLaurin caught his second touchdown reception of the postseason. His 58-yard touchdown reception is the longest postseason touchdown reception since WR Ricky Sanders’ 80-yard touchdown reception on January 31, 1988 (the 1987 season).
• Safety Quan Martin recorded his first career pick six.
• Tight End Zach Ertz caught his third career postseason touchdown reception.
• Jayden Daniels is the first quarterback to throw for 240-plus passing yards and two-plus passing touchdowns in the first half of a postseason game since Patrick Mahomes accomplished the feat against Pittsburgh on Jan. 16, 2022.
• Brian Robinson, Jr. is the first Washington player to rush for two touchdowns in a playoff game since Stephen Davis did so (WC, 1999 vs. DET).
• Cornerback Mike Sainristil, who recorded two interceptions in the game, is the first Washington player to record at least two interceptions in a playoff game since Barry Wilburn did so in Super Bowl XXII vs. DEN.
