Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) apprehended a suspect who fled a downtown Silver Spring business on Friday, February 7 at approximately 5:10 PM, according to a social media post by Captain Jason Cokinos.
Per Cokinos, while patrolling the area, officers noticed the man sprinting from the scene of the theft. The officers quickly pursued the fleeing suspect, who discarded a handgun into nearby bushes during the chase.
Law enforcement officials successfully apprehended the adult male and recovered the firearm, which was later identified as stolen. Authorities also discovered that the handgun was equipped with an illegal extended magazine, according to Cokinos.
Cokinos shared, “Theft continues to be an issue that we will keep targeting in 2025 amongst other public safety issues such as removing illegal guns from our streets.” Additional information regarding the suspect was not shared.
