On Sunday night, February 23, the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department’s (KVFD) Engine 705, alongside units from Wheaton Rescue 2, was dispatched at 11:48 PM to respond to a collision at the intersection of Veirs Mill Road and Monterrey Drive.
According to the Kensington VFD, upon arrival responders encountered a sedan that overturned after it was driven through, and split, a telephone pole. Remarkably, one half of the pole remained suspended, hanging precariously from the powerlines above.
One occupant of the vehicle managed to self-extricate and was subsequently evaluated for injuries at the scene. In response to the situation, Pepco was requested to address the downed power lines. Once the scene was secured, it was turned over to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) for further investigation.
