Detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department – Investigative Section have arrested 32-year-old Louis Jeffery Hanley of Olney, MD. He faces charges of first-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, and reckless endangerment stemming from an incident that took place last December in Gaithersburg’s Downtown Crown neighborhood.
This follows an original report from December 3, 2024, when detectives began investigating a shooting that took place in the 300 block of Copley Place in Gaithersburg. On that day, at 1:05 p.m., officers from the Gaithersburg Police Department and the Montgomery County Police – 6th District responded to the parking lot of a Starbucks in the area after receiving reports of a shooting.
Preliminary investigations revealed that an unknown male fired an unknown number of rounds in the direction of a vehicle parked in the Starbucks parking lot. Following the shooting, both the victim and the suspect fled the scene in their respective vehicles, heading in different directions. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Hanley was developed as a suspect during the investigation and was subsequently arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Detention Center. A mugshot was not provided in the news release shared via social media by Gaithersburg Police.
