The Washington Commanders are among the select NFL clubs making significant strides in the league’s growing global footprint. As part of the NFL’s expanded Global Markets Program (GMP) in 2025, the Commanders have been granted exclusive marketing rights in the United Arab Emirates– a prime market that promises to boost international engagement and grow the fan base far beyond U.S. borders.
Launched in 2022, the GMP awards NFL clubs international marketing rights to build brand awareness and cultivate fandom worldwide through fan engagements, events, commercial opportunities, and NFL Flag development. This year, the program expands to include 29 clubs across 21 markets, up from 25 clubs in 19 markets last year. The Commanders join teams such as the Baltimore Ravens (in the United Kingdom), Green Bay Packers (in Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom), and Los Angeles Chargers (in Greece).
“The expansion of the Global Markets Program in 2025 reflects the NFL’s continued focus to grow the game and connect with fans on a global scale,” said Peter O’Reilly, NFL Executive Vice President, Club Business, Major Events and International. “With more clubs entering the program and existing clubs adding to their global rights, we are seeing strong momentum and impact in growing worldwide fandom.”
Clubs participate in the GMP by applying for rights to international markets through proposals submitted to the International Committee each spring, with rights awarded on a five-year term. This unique program allows clubs to replicate the kind of community engagement they experience domestically, but on a global scale with the possibility of a home game being played in the associated area.
